This article indicates that the Yao Tien people in Ha Hieu commune, Ba Be district, Bac Kan province have retained a lot of traditional knowledge of usage of traditional medicinal herbs, especially the prescriptions handed down from their ancestors. The investigation into the Yao Tien knowledge of usage of medicinal herbs helps understand their relation and adaptation to the living environment as well as socio-economic and cultural elements. This writting also provides the supplemental data of Yao Tien local knowledge in usage of Vietnamese medicinal herbs, including the source of medicinal herbs; techniques of gathering, processing, planting and protecting of medicinal herbs; a number of commonly used prescriptions for prevention and cure of diseases; income from medicinal herbs, etc. The research also indicates that a number of medicinal herbs and prescriptions of the Yao Tien people have brought into play their strong effects on care of community health, especially poor and disadvantaged people who lack necessary conditions to access and use the services of modern health care system
