Sự tương đồng trong cách phản ứng của người Hmông ở Việt Nam và người Miêu ở Trung Quốc với ảnh hưởng của Ki-tô giáo

Tóm tắt

This article compares the responses of the Hmong in Vietnam and the Miao in China to the impacts of Christianity, accounting for different socio-economic and cultural circumstances, and processes of colonization and globalization. The author indicates that although the Hmong in Vietnam and the Miao in China are related and have a shared history, language and culture, they see themselves, and are seen by others, as separate ethnic groups. Both the Hmong and the Miao are influenced by Christianity and react variously by either 1) converting to Christianity, or 2) maintaining their traditional beliefs to combat the influence of Christianity. This is due to the difference of their perceptions of Christianity (influenced by the traditional beliefs, emotional and psychological attachment to ancestors, socio-economic conditions and the missionary ways), and the benefits that Christianity brings to the Hmong and Miao.
