Tóm tắt

To deeply regret the passing of Professor Le Thi Nham Tuyet, who is the initiatress and founder of many feminist studies within the social sciences in Vietnam. This essay reviews some of her outstanding contributions to the Vietnam social sciences. The essay examines her scientific projects and publications published in various languages (Vietnamese, English, Russian, Chinese, French and Japanese), her formal and informal academic collaborations with other social scientists, colleagues and students. Professor       Le Thi Nham Tuyet was well respected for her ability to initiate several projects into new areas of research was due to her strong enthusiasm, vibrant ideas and enormous compassion for the progress of science. Accordingly, she is considered: 1) an initiatress to women’s    and gender studies in Vietnam; 2) a “founder-mother” and/or generator of the Center         for Women’s Studies, Vietnam Museum of Ethnology, and Vietnamese Women’s Museum; 3) the founder of the first social sciences-focused non-governmental organization in Vietnam: Research Center for Gender, Family and Environment in Development; and 4) an exceptional supervisor of many students.
