This article focuses on the roles and advantages of applied anthropology, which is derived from a unique methodology focused on researching, preserving and developing culture. To demonstrate roles of Vietnam anthropology in preserving and developing national culture, the author provides examples and lessons learned from development projects. Emphasis is placed on the advantages and challenges of Vietnam anthropology in the preservation and development of national culture when Vietnam joined WTO. In the context of the international integration, Vietnamese communist anthropology with its orientation of comparative research, and the study of culture as a perfect entity in a diversified world, will definitely have a great impact and significance on society.
