The author presents some main findings as a part of his PhD. dissertation. This article includes two parts: 1) Overview of the Hmong free immigration to the western Thanh Hoa and Nghe An provinces; and 2) Description of the characteristics of the Hmong free immigration to this region. Of which, the author focuses mainly on the second part. According to him, there are seven major points of the Hmong free immigration: 1) this immigration is national and transnational; 2) immigrants are relatively diverse, with a great number of farmers; 3) the time period of  this immigration is different; 4) immigration directions are complex; 5) ways of immigration are diverse; 6) Hmong immigration activities in recent years have abnormal signs with complicated happenings; 7) most Hmong immigrants in western Thanh Hoa and Nghe An provinces are converting to Protestant or Catholicism. This requires the local authorities to solve two separate problems of immigration and illegal missionary activities.
