In studying epic poetry, researchers generally examines history using historic methods to discover historical events described in the epic poetry. By approaching the epic poetry in another way, and using historic data found in the epic poems of ethnic minorities in the Central Highland of Vietnam and in other areas in the world, the author analyzes further value of the epic poems. The epic poems provide an example of social subconscious. This subconscious includes archetypes, which are normally expressed in social symbols, and legends making members of a certain ethnic group repeat similar symbols. In addition, epic poems show something from another world, the so-called chaos; this means it closely connects with shamanism.
