Religion, beliefs of the Ta Mun in Binh Phuoc province

Abstract

The article presents, in the form of an ethnography, the religious life and beliefs of the Ta Mun – an ethnic group in Binh Phuoc province. The group has not been much studied in the past. This ethnography covers aspects such as: traditional beliefs, such as concepts of the universe and world; soul and spirits; funeral ceremonies and worship; magic; dreams and related omens; Cao Dai sect and Protestantism; changes of religion and beliefs, as influenced by exposure to new factors, and the impacts of these changes on the Ta Mun’s socio-economic and cultural life.
