Political and economic oppression imposed by the Ming and Ch’ing dynasties in China pressured the Yao people to relocate from Ho Nam and Tuong Viet Que (belonging to Ho Nam, Quang Tay, Quang Dong provinces at present) to the border area of the Southwest China and some countries of Southeast Asia. The feudal agrarian systems combined with natural calamities pressured the Yao swidden agriculture system to relocate leading to a shift in the Yao’s political and cultural center that created new cultural aspects.
