The article analyses the status and reasons for poverty, as well as the poverty reduction activities among a community of the Kho Mu people in North-Western Vietnam. After over 10 years pursuing the farming transformation, the people in Cha village are on the right track to overcome poverty. The results, however, are not yet sustainable. The highest risk faced by many households, and deterring them from overcoming poverty, is the accumulated debts, which can gradually grip off their land from them, and grip off their annual hard labour outcomes. As seen by the author, the relevant public banks should improve the effectiveness of offering soft loans to the people in a more practical way, to help them get away from the extremely high interest debts obtained from private business people
