Are people capable of doing research? A group of seven local villagers carried out a cultural participatory research with technical and financial support from Caritas Switzerland, and INGO working in Ha Giang province. During 4 weeks, the team included three women and four men at different age, who have low education background, had successfully mobilised their community of about 800 Bo Y people in four villages, which is one of the smallest Ethnic groups in Vietnam, to discuss and recall their cultural identities. The team also facilitated their neighbours to set up an action plan to preserve and develop their culture values. The research showed a strong and immediate impact of the method on the community compare to academic research approach. Would it be a suitable approach to involve people in preserving their own culture?
