Abstract

In the social sciences and humanities, religion is regarded as an objective social entity that reflects the relationship between human beings and the sacred, the supernatural world, and a variety of values. Numerous studies have shown that religion is not only a system of beliefs and practices related to the sacred, but also performs functions such as fostering social cohesion and maintaining social order, and many religious values have the capacity to profoundly influence social life in history and the present. Religion is not merely a historical entity, but also a cultural and dynamic social one, consistently embodying positive values and functions for human life, contributing to social stability and sustainable development. Based on an interdisciplinary perspective from religious studies, cultural studies of religion, and axiology, and employing document analysis, this article identifies several fundamental values and functions of religion in contemporary Vietnam.
