Developing an agricultural and rural tourism model in the Mekong Delta from experience in some countries around the world

Abstract

Agricultural and rural tourism is understood as the activity of a community participating in tourism, this activity begins spontaneously in places with attractive tourist attractions and historical sites where local residents participate in serving the needs of tourists. Tourists have a number of activities and experiences including sightseeing, enjoying local specialties, picnicking, enjoying amateur folk music, visiting craft villages, learning about the lives and activities of the people, and some other activities such as digging ditches to catch fish, visiting ancient houses, taking canoes to visit rivers and canals, cooking rustic dishes... Currently, developing agricultural and rural tourism is a growing trend. It is becoming a key economic sector, creating a driving force to promote the development of other industries and fields in countries around the world and in Vietnam. Developing agricultural and rural tourism is also one of the focuses of the strategy. Within the scope of this article, the authors focused on pointing out the advantages and difficulties in developing agricultural and rural tourism, villages in Vietnam, and presented some experiences of some countries around the world in developing this tourism model. From there, some recommendations were made regarding promoting this model in the Mekong Delta region.
