Promoting sustainable economic development in the Mekong Delta region through the method of removing economic institutions
Abstract
The Mekong Delta is the largest food production and export region in the country, contributing 31.37% of GDP to the entire agricultural sector with about 50% of rice output, 95% of exported rice, about 65% of aquaculture output, 60% of exported fish and approximately 70% of all kinds of fruits. However, in recent years, the Mekong Delta economic region has still encountered many difficulties and challenges in attracting investment in agriculture and rural development due to lack of synchronous infrastructure, especially are transportation, irrigation, electricity, and communication systems. Farmers' production level is still low and labor productivity is low. Mechanisms and policies to encourage investment are not yet consistent and not attractive to investors. To solve these difficulties and challenges, the Government has issued many policies to encourage investment in the agricultural sector, but there are still shortcomings that need to be resolved. Within the scope of the article, the authors will point out the difficulties and challenges in the process of agricultural economic development in the Mekong Delta region. From there, there will be solutions to solve this problem in the future to remove bottlenecks related to economic institutions.
