Objective: Determining factors affecting the intention to have safe sex among students of Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy.

Subjects and methods: Cross-sectional research design - analysis. 131 full-time students studying in all faculties of Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy in 2022 conducted a survey through a self-filled questionnaire.

Results: Students are most satisfied with using contraceptives when having vaginal sex with their partner (5.86 ± 1.41), and least satisfied with using condoms (4.89 ± 1.53). Most people important to students think using contraceptives (6.24 ± 1.17) or condoms (6.23 ± 1.12) is a good idea. There is a statistically significant correlation between personal attitude and intention to have safe sex (r = 0.51, p < 0.05), and between social norms and intention to have safe sex (r = 0.56, p < 0.05).

Conclusion: Personal attitudes and social norms are correlated with the intention to have safe sex among students of Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy. The school should have appropriate and timely solutions to positively impact students' intentions to have safe sex.
