Abstract

The primary defensive objective in mountainous and forested terrain is a key objective-terrain of significant tactical value that an infantry division must resolutely hold at all costs in order to create conditions for adjacent units and higher echelons to conduct other combat operations within the overall campaign disposition. The article addresses the issue of improving the effectiveness of defeating attacking enemy forces and firmly holding the primary defensive objective of an infantry division in defensive operations in mountainous and forested terrain.
