Abstract

Practical experience in Lai Chau shows that, owing to their social standing, understanding of local customs and languages, and close relationships with religious followers, religious dignitaries are well positioned to encourage religious communities to comply with the law, participate in socio-economic development, maintain social stability, and strengthen the “people-based defence posture” at the grassroots level.
