Abstract

Studying the adversary is a critically important issue that has a decisive bearing on success in military operations in general and defensive campaigns in particular. Correctly identifying the adversary enables a campaign to thoroughly prepare operational plans; organize the posture, forces, logistics, and technical support; and conduct the campaign effectively. It also contributes to defeating key engagements, accomplishing the objectives and missions of the defensive campaign, and creating favourable conditions for the development of other combat activities and forms of struggle throughout the operation.
