YOUNG PEOPLE DOING CRAFTS IN THE CITY

Abstract

Hanoi has been a land with hundreds of crafts, and considered as the cradle, convergence and preservation of many traditional handicrafts. The development and change of its economy, culture, and society in certain period has been mainly reflected by the development of the crafts. Some recent studies have examined and demonstrated the disappearance, loss and severance of traditional occupations. As a result, valuable legacy of these occupations could disappear forever. However, the activity of a small community of young craftsmen in Hanoi mentioned in this article illustrate a positive signal of the development of crafts in the coming time. Many young people in the urban areas have spent their passion and time to maintain and preserve traditional crafts with high expectation of improving the current products, preserve traditions and help the society to realize the true value of traditional crafts.
