Abstract

Lipoma is a common benign tumor that can occur in various organs, particularly within the gastrointestinal tract. However, diffuse submucosal lipomatosis of the intestine is an exceptionally rare condition, with no previously reported cases in Vietnam. The etiology of this disease remains unclear, although several studies have suggested potential associations with genetic mutations. The pathogenesis is characterized by diffuse proliferation and infiltration of mature adipose tissue within the submucosal layer of the intestinal wall. The condition is often asymptomatic and usually discovered incidentally; however, in some cases, it can progress to severe complications such as intestinal obstruction, intussusception, gastrointestinal bleeding, or perforation. Imaging play a crucial role in establishing the diagnosis. We report a case of diffuse submucosal intestinal lipomatosis involving the entire intestine, which was diagnosed and managed at Ba Ria General Hospital.
