Vocabulary plays a very important role in learning French for students in general .The richness of vocabulary is the foundation for students to study, practice and improve language skills such as listening, speaking, reading, and writing because vocabulary helps students understand information from lessons as well as through communication with others. For the French Department, Hanoi University of Education, after enrolling English-speaking students since 2017, only a few students have studied French before entering the school, while only a few students have studied French before entering the school. Most students learn English in high school, which causes them to encounter many difficulties when entering their first year of school. This research was conducted on first-year students of the course - French Department, Hanoi University of Education. Because most students learn English in high school and have never been exposed to French, many French vocabulary words are similar to English but the pronunciation and writing are different, easily causing confusion. mistake. Therefore, finding out students’ difficulties will help provide solutions for students to learn and improve their vocabulary more effectively.
