This study explores how teachers apply their powers to manage online foreign language classes. In-depth interviews with English lecturers at a university who have experienced online teaching reveal that lecturers have to make more efforts to make students concentrate effectively on learning. The application of teacher powers must also be flexible depending on the type of learners to maintain a comfortable and effective learning environment.
