Tóm tắt
The Writing course, introduced in the second year of the Chinese Language program at Thuyloi
University, is essential but students frequently make errors in common Chinese text types. Analysis of 30
student writings identified four main error categories: grammar (33.7%), vocabulary (28.7%), paragraph
cohesion and coherence (19.7%), and stylistic expression (18.0%). Despite relatively low overall error
rates, cohesion and stylistic errors appeared in over 76.7% and 80% of texts, respectively. Key causes
include insufficient vocabulary and grammar knowledge—especially of connectives—lack of paragraph
structuring skills, negative transfer from the first language, and delayed instructor feedback. The study
recommends: (1) strengthening foundational language knowledge; (2) integrating writing instruction into
first-year courses; (3) progressively developing writing skills; and (4) providing timely feedback and
assessment.
