Tóm tắt

This research investigates the key difficulties of first-year non-English majored students at
VNU, International School when presenting in English in English for Specific Purposes (ESP) classes.
The results present: key problems of the current situation, such as restricted ESP (English for Specific
Purposes) vocabulary; wrong grammar and syntax; lack of confidence in public language representation
skills; and poor interaction with the audience. These issues can be attributed to poor mastery of English,
ineptitude of preparation, and alienation with technical expressions. The research recommends a series
of teaching innovations, for example, contextualised vocabulary enhancement, scaffolded workshop-style
presentation skills, peer interaction and teacher modification. These findings highlight the necessity of an
encouraging and interactive classroom atmosphere for promoting learners’ confidence and communicative
competence. This study provides some practical advice for teachers, syllabus designers and policy-makers
who aim to improve presentation performance in ESP settings for non-English majors
