PEDAGOGICAL APPROACHES TO ENHANCING SPEAKING SKILLS AMONG FIRST-YEAR NON-ENGLISH MAJORS AT DONG NAI UNIVERSITY

This study investigates pedagogical approaches to improving English speaking skills among
first-year non-English majors at Dong Nai University. Using a mixed-methods design with surveys,
classroom observations, and instructor interviews, the research examines student challenges and teaching
practices. Results show that while grammar-focused instruction remains common, communicative,
task-based, and collaborative activities significantly enhance fluency, confidence, and participation.
The findings underscore the importance of learner-centered, context-sensitive approaches and provide
practical implications for curriculum design and English teaching in Vietnamese universities.
