In the context of the ongoing comprehensive reform of higher education in Vietnam, the teaching
of political theory courses, particularly the subject of Ho Chi Minh’s Thought, needs to be innovated
toward fostering students’ qualities and competencies. This article synthesizes and analyzes both domestic
and international studies on active learning methods, with a particular focus on group discussion, in order
to identify their advantages, limitations, and potential applications in teaching Ho Chi Minh’s Thought.
Based on a combination of theoretical foundations and practical experiences, the paper proposes solutions
to enhance the effectiveness of applying this method. The findings indicate that group discussion enables
students to take initiative, develop cooperative skills, critical thinking, and the ability to apply knowledge
in practice. This is a feasible and effective approach when properly organized, contributing to improving
teaching quality and meeting the demands of higher education reform.
