Abstract

Dao Tan, a significant contributor to numerous well-known boi singing scripts in Binh Dinh, such as: Hoang Phi Ho crossing the border pass, Dao Phi Phung, Co thanh... Hosinh dan (HSĐ) (a Vietnamese classical opera about a ritual for safe childbirth) is one of Dao Tan’s boi singing scripts that has been passed down through the folk traditions of Binh Dinh, embodying the unique style of Binh Dinh Boi singing (HBBĐ). However, over time, the melodies and musical structures within this script have increasingly faded in HBBĐ performances. Identifying the melodies and musical structures in the HSĐ play and recognizing the changes in the current performance of HSĐ in Binh Dinh compared to Dao Tan’s script is an urgent task that contributes to preserving and conserving the artistic value of the HBBĐ style. This article presents the melodies and musical structures in the HSĐ play, specifically: determining the number and proportion of various types of melodies and musical structures for each character in this play, along with their artistic values; and the changes in melodies and musical structures in the actual performance of HSĐ compared to Dao Tan’s script.
