Abstract

At the beginning of the 20th century, French colonial rule and exploitation policies in Southern Vietnam, alongside global ideological and social movements, significantly impacted social structures and opportunities. Under the French education policy and the emergence of the national-language press, particularly the women’s press in Southern Vietnam, women gained a more prominent position in journalism and society. Based on sources from Nu Gioi Chung and Phu nu Tan Van newspapers, this article argues and analyzes the changes in the status and journalistic activities of Southern Vietnamese women in the early 20th century. The research findings provide new insights into the cultural transition period in Southern Vietnam, contributing to a more comprehensive understanding of Southern Vietnamese women in the early 20th century and reaffirming their role in today’s globalized context.
