Abstract
This article investigates the role and developmental process of music in the art of “cai luong” in Ho Chi Minh City - the major center of Southern Vietnam’s “cai luong” stage. The author clarifies the foundational influence of “tai tu” music in the formation of “cai luong”, its integration with Western music, various forms of folk songs, and Vietnamese modern popular music, as well as the adaptation of its music from 1975 to the present. Through this study, the article shows that music is not only a fundamental element but also a driving force for innovation, the preservation of identity, and the development of “cai luong” in the era of global integration.
