Research on using limestone with high MgCO3 content for cement clinker production

Abstract

In Vietnam, Limestone mines for cement clinker production existe limestone good quality and limeston mixed with unwanted impurities (such as: MgCO₃; SiO₂; CaSO₄…), mostly MgCO₃. When MgCO₃ is greater than 5%, the cement factories have difficulty operating and cement quality is unstable. Limestone mining often requires removing rock seams with high MgCO₃ content, which leads to waste of resources and increased mining costs. This study uses CaF₂, CaSO₄ and increases Fe₂O₃ content in cement mixing powder to stabilize MgO content in minerals and glass phase. Result, it is possible to produce cement portland with MgO content up to 8,82%, ensuring the physical and mechanical properties of cement.
