Research on using limestone with high MgCO3 content for cement clinker production

Abstract

In Vietnam, Limestone mines for cement clinker production existe limestone good quality and limeston mixed with unwanted impurities (such as: MgCO3; SiO2; CaSO4…), mostly MgCO3. When MgCO3 is greater than 5%, the cement factories have difficulty operating and cement quality is unstable. Limestone mining often requires removing rock seams with high MgCO3 content, which leads to waste of resources and increased mining costs. This study uses CaF2, CaSO4 and increases Fe2O3 content in cement mixing powder to stabilize MgO content in minerals and glass phase. Result, it is possible to produce cement portland with MgO content up to 8,82%, ensuring the physical and mechanical properties of cement.
