Research on porous concrete pavement construction for sustainable drainage
Abstract
The replacement of natural surface to artificial surface in urban areas has deprived the water permeability and retention. It is the main cause of flooding, environmental pollution, reduction of groundwater for urban and increased urban heat island effect. Therefore, the application of sustainable drainage technical solutions including porous concrete pavement with the high permeability and water retention is essential. However, the current research topics on this issue in Vietnam maily focus on high porous density concrete slab when the water permeability and retention of porous concrete pavement also heavily depends on the subbase and the subgrade under that porous concrete slab. According to the issue the authors have mentioned above, this research has presented a design model of the entire porous concrete pavement construction that not only ensures the loadbearing strength but also ensures the high permeability and water retention. In addition, the authors have conducted testing on the field for porous concrete pavement which is light loadbearing (the load of transportation vehicle ≤ 2,5 tons) to evaluate the drainage efficiency of the porous concrete pavement.
