Study of nonlinear pile-soil interaction model for the pile subjected by lateral loading

Abstract

The concepts of “p-y curves” to simulate pile-soil interaction has increasingly been applied to structural problems that consider superstructure and pile foundation working simultaneously. The model established by this method assumes that the soil is nonlinear elastic material, the relationship between the reaction of soil and the pile displacement is nonlinear; it depends on the parameters of the soil, piles and load acting on the pile. In this paper, the author presents an analysis of the pile foundations under lateral loading based on the “p-y curves” theory to simulate nonlinear pile-soil interaction; in which the pile element is modeled as a continuous beam placed on elastic base.
