The relationship between flexural and compressive strength of cement column for clay mud mixed with sandy depending on cement content and water/cement ratio
Abstract
This paper studies the relationship between flexural and compressive strength of soil cement mixtures with mud clay mixed with sandy. This ratio is not only depended on the cement content but also depended upon the ratio of water/cement. The study was conducted through flexural strength tests on 4cm × 4cm × 16cm samples and compressive strength on cube sizes of 7.07cm × 7.07cm × 7.07cm. Preparation of samples was conducted in the room by the wet mixing method by changing the cement content of 5%, 10%, 15% and 20%, respectively. For each cement content, the ratio of water / cement changes the values of 0, 0.5, 1.0 and 1.5 respectively. The results indicated that, it replies on the cement content and ratio of water/cement, the ratio between flexural and compressive strength is ranged from 0.33 to 0.69. Furthermore, the result is also shown that the optimum of cement content, water/cement ratio is 15% and less than 0.5 respectively. With these optimum ratios, the ratio between flexural and compressive strength is ranged from 0.46 to 0.60.
