Abstract

Research on producing lightweight aggregates from fly ash in the Mekong Delta region by cold bonding method applied to replace 10 x 20 broken stone to produce concrete pavement for rural road grade IV and below in An Giang province. Lightweight aggregates in the study were produced with many different mixing ratios between fly ash and cement. The results showed that the produced light aggregate had unit weight of about 1 g/cm3, water absorption between 16,79 % and 25,19 %, the highest compressive strength was 1,72 MPa (with the mix of 88 % fly ash and 12 %. cement), particle size distributions and crushing value met the standard TCVN 7672:2006. Light aggregate FA91C09 (used 91 % fly ash) and light aggregate FA88C12 (used 88 % fly ash) were utilized to produce concrete. The results indicated that the dry bulk density of the concretes had a significant reduction of 16 % to 19 % , the compressive strengths at 28 days were about 65 % to 75 % compared to those of the control sample. flexural tensile strengths were around 4,61 MPa and 5,81 MPa and the abrasion  were from 0,16 g/cm2 to 0,47 g/cm2. All properties of lightweight concrete in the research met the requirements of concrete pavement for rural roads of grade IV and below according to current standards.
