Abstract

Vietnam has a coastline of over 3,260km with many beautiful landscapes and beaches. 70% of domestic tourist sites and attractions are distributed in coastal areas, attracting 65% of tourists. Income from marine tourism accounts for a high proportion of Vietnam's tourism income. The coastal area has many favorable conditions with diverse and rich natural resources, many cultural and natural heritages are concentrated, but it has not been invested in exploiting and promoting commensurately.

Phu Yen and the South Central Coast are the areas where many tangible and intangible heritages are concentrated, formed from the resident culture and living space associated with the sea of generations of Vietnamese people. Preserving and promoting the value of cultural heritages of sea and islands associated with the goal of promoting socio-economic development and sustainable development of coastal cities is an urgent requirement. The article initially assesses the value of marine heritage, identifies strengths, opportunities and challenges in sustainable development, thereby proposing some orientations for developing marine tourism associated with urban development and conservation of heritage in Phu Yen and its surrounding areas.
