HIGHER EDUCATION POLICY IN SOUTHERN VIETNAM (1955 - 1963)
Abstract
On May 10, 1955, Ngo Dinh Diem announced the dissolution of goverment which had been previously established by Emperor Bao Dai and then set up a new goverment by the name of Republic of Vietnam. Under the aid of the US, the government of the Republic of Vietnam has implemented basic steps to shape the educational views and policies in South Vietnam with the aim of training qualified personnel, who served national construction and researching practical problems of social life in South Vietnam. In the period from 1955 to 1963, through the development and implementation of a series of policies, higher education in South Vietnam has made certain progress, especially the increase in the number of schools, classes, types of training and number of students. The paper analyzes and then gives an assessment on the Ngo Dinh Diem government's policy development and implementation for higher education in South Vietnam
