THE ROLE OF VIETNAMESE FAMILIES IN EDUCATING THEIR CHILDREN

Abstract: When speaking of family, we refer to an institution with multiple functions, among which the role of educating children is of particular importance. Family education is not as structured, systematic, or specialized as school education, but it holds unique advantages no other institution can offer. Across different historical periods, the content and form of family education may vary, but at its core remains the mission of teaching children what is right, nurturing essential values for life and personal development, educating children to become dutiful sons and daughters in the family and responsible citizens in society. This article focuses on three main topics: the family and its educational role; child-rearing in traditional Vietnamese families; and child education in Vietnamese families today.
