Abstract

In modern international relations, the United States is the dominant superpower, and has been using that power to establish world hegemony. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, the United States always adjusted its policies and strategies, and South Asia was no exception to that adjustment. As a region with a key strategic position, nuclearization in South Asia with India's Pokhran-II tests and Pakistan's Chagai-II tests in mid-1998 became a major concern for the US. So, what policies did the US have in the nuclear race between India and Pakistan? Based on historical and logical methods, the article aimed to clarify the intention, nature and differences in the US policies to resolve the nuclear crisis in South Asia in 1998 - 1999. Research results shows that with India, the US had harsh reactions and measures, but with Pakistan, the US was ready to give a lot of advice, including promises of economic and military support. The research results are a concrete manifestation of the superpower's position in the dominant impact of the world political situation after the Cold War.
