EMISSION SPECTROSCOPY OF CYANINE DYE AFFECTED BY PLASMONICS OF COLLOIDAL GOLD NANOPARTICLES
Abstract
The characterizations of fluorescence spectra of Cy3 dye belonging to the Cyanine family were investigated according to gold nanoparticles' presence in the dye solution. Due to the surface plasmon effect from gold nanoparticles, the fluorescence of Cy3 can be enhanced or quenched depending on the optical configuration. In this work, the emission spectroscopy of Cy3 dye was measured by changing the concentration of gold nanoparticles in the dye solution. The radiation and non-radiant recombination corresponding to the fluorescence enhancement and quenching processes were also calculated via quantum yield and lifetime fluorescence. The best fluorescence enhancement conditions have shown depending on the distance between the gold nanoparticles and Cy3 dye molecules.
