USING LANGUAGE GAMES TO ENHANCE MOTIVATION TO LEARN ENGLISH VOCABULARY OF ELEMENTARY STUDENTS AT POPODOO ENGLISH CENTRE IN BAC NINH CITY
Abstract
This paper looks into the use of language games to increase the motivation to learn vocabulary of elementary students at Popodoo English Centre in Bac Ninh city. Language games were applied for 15 weeks during the English lessons of 40 elementary students. Research instruments including questionnaires, semi-structured interviews and classroom observation were used to gather the data to be reflected upon. The results that were gained did confirm the positive effects of the language games on the student vocabulary learning motivation and progress, in which motivation was significantly increased in comparison with what came before games were added to the lessons. It was also found that the students had a very positive attitude towards the language games in their vocabulary lessons.
