LIVELIHOOD CAPITAL AND LIVELIHOOD VULNERABILITY OF SAN CHAY FARMERS IN PHU LUONG DISTRICT, THAI NGUYEN PROVINCE
Abstract
The study uses the sustainable livelihood framework analysis method and vulnerability assessment method to assess the current status of livelihood capital and livelihood vulnerability index of San Chay ethnic farmers in Phu Luong district, Thai Nguyen province. Research results show that San Chay ethnic farmers in Phu Luong district, Thai Nguyen province have diversified and abundant livelihood capital, especially social capital. However, the livelihood vulnerability index of farmers of San Chay ethnic group is quite high (VI = 0.51). Among the 5 livelihood capital sources of San Chay ethnic farmers, human capital and natural capital have the highest livelihood vulnerability index (VI = 0.63), other livelihood capital sources have lower VI. From the above results, the study proposes solutions to improve the livelihoods of San Chay ethnic farmers in Phu Luong district, Thai Nguyen province in the coming time.
