In the context of the significant increase in industrial waste within Ho Chi Minh City's industrial zones and export processing zones, which exerts immense pressure on the environment and natural resources. This study aims to assess the current status of waste generation and the potential of applying industrial symbiosis models to optimize waste recycling and reuse within these zones. The research methodology included a survey of 424 enterprises in 17 export processing zones - industrial zones to collect data on waste volume, treatment methods, and recycling potential. The results show that the total annual industrial waste generation in Ho Chi Minh City reaches over 4.3 million tons, with the recycling rate at only 35%. Industries such as chemicals-pharmaceuticals, rubber, plastics, food processing, and mechanical, electrical, and electronics account for a large proportion of the total waste, reflecting significant potential for developing industrial symbiosis and recycling models. The research results also indicate that the lack of an integrated database system is a major barrier to implementing industrial symbiosis models. Therefore, an integrated data-sharing platform has been proposed to collect, store, and analyze industrial waste data. This platform will connect businesses and management agencies, promote industrial symbiosis, and optimize recycling processes, contributing to the city's circular economy development.Downloads
