This study numerically investigates mixed convection in a square lid-driven cavity with a locally heated bottom wall of varying geometry. Four configurations are examined with a geometric ratio Ar = W/(H+W) ranging from 1 to 0.33, while maintaining a constant perimeter of the heated region. Two-dimensional, steady-state simulations (Re = 6667; ΔT = 10–20 K; Ri = 327–654) are performed using the finite volume method with the Boussinesq approximation. The results indicate that increasing ΔT enhances flow intensity and thermal gradients without altering the primary vortex structure. In contrast, the heater geometry strongly influences the flow pattern and temperature distribution. When Ar decreases to 0.33, the average thermal gradient increases by more than 60% compared to Ar = 1, and the central velocity rises significantly due to flow constriction. However, this local intensification does not result in global heat transfer optimization. The maximum average Nusselt number is obtained at Ar = 1 (51.89 at ΔT = 20 K), approximately 6.18% higher than that at Ar ≈ 0.33. The correlation Nuavg ~ Grⁿ with n ≈ 0.21 confirms the mixed convection regime. Overall, the findings demonstrate that heat transfer performance depends on the balance between local acceleration effects and the effective heat transfer area, rather than solely on peak thermal gradients.Downloads
