HEALTH STATUS AND DISEASE PATTERNS OF STEELMAKING WORKERS AT THAI NGUYEN IRON AND STEEL JOINT STOCK COMPANY IN 2024

The steelmaking industry involves heavy and hazardous working conditions that may adversely affect workers’ health. This study aimed to describe the health status and disease patterns of steelmaking workers at Thai Nguyen Iron and Steel Joint Stock Company in 2024. A cross-sectional descriptive study using retrospective data was conducted among 396 steelmaking workers who were directly involved in production and had worked for at least six months. Data were collected from periodic health examination results and medical records in accordance with current regulations. The results showed that 79.3% of workers were classified as having grade II health, 16.2% grade III, 1.8% grade IV, and 0.9% grade V. All workers had at least one diagnosed disease, and 61.1% had three or more diseases. The most common disease groups were oral and dental diseases (63.1%), ear–nose–throat diseases (50.0%), and surgical diseases (37.7%). Regarding laboratory findings, 54.5% of workers had prediabetes, 15.2% had diabetes mellitus, and 67.4% had elevated triglyceride levels. These findings indicate a high prevalence of multimorbidity and metabolic disorders among steelmaking workers, reflecting a considerable health burden in this heavy industrial workforce.Downloads
