The study aimed to evaluate the tyrosinase enzyme inhibition and antioxidant effects of the total extracts from various parts and fractionated extracts: n-hexane, ethyl acetate, and methanol from the husk of the Castanea mollissima Blume collected in Trung Khanh district, Cao Bang province, using the 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazylfree radical scavenging method and the tyrosinase enzyme inhibition assay. The results indicated that the total extract from the husk exhibited the strongest tyrosinase enzyme inhibitory activity, with an IC50 value of 325.43 ± 14.78 μg/mL. Meanwhile, the leaf, stem bark, and twig extracts showed moderate enzyme inhibition, with IC50 values ranging from 336.43 to 406.42 µg/mL. In the in vitro antioxidant activity test, the ethyl acetate extract demonstrated the best antioxidant activity with a scavenging capacity of 74.14 ± 0.4%, corresponding to an SC50 value of 18.76 µg/mL, while the n-hexane extract showed a free radical scavenging capacity of 60.49 ± 1.1%, corresponding to an SC50 value of 51.32 µg/mL. The other extracts displayed moderate to weak activity. This shows that the classes of substances exhibiting anti-free radical activity are mostly found in the less polar and moderately polar extracts.Downloads
