Abstract

Linear power flow is vital for electrical system planning and operation, commonly addressed using Direct Current Power Flow or simplified DistFlow. However, the Direct Current Power Flow method is limited to transmission grids, neglects reactive power, and disregards voltage, while the simplified DistFlow method only suits radial distribution grids and ignores Distributed Generator’s voltage regulation capability. To overcome these limitations, this paper proposes a Fast Decoupled Linearized Power Flow method. The Fast Decoupled Linearized Power Flow method is applicable to any grid structure, incorporates reactive power, and accounts for Distributed Generator’s voltage regulation. Programmed in MATLAB and tested on an IEEE 69-bus meshed distribution grid with voltage-regulating Distributed Generators, computational results show the Fast Decoupled Linearized Power Flow method achieves minimal voltage magnitude errors compared to traditional Alternating Current Power Flow methods. Furthermore, the location of the distributed generator and the grid configuration significantly impact the bus voltage magnitude.
