A PRELIMINARY SURVEY OF VISUAL GENRES INSPIRED BY NGUYEN DU’S THE TALE OF KIEU

The primary objective of this article is to affirm the uniqueness and richness of the visual imagery associated with Nguyen Du’s The Tale of Kieu. These images do not merely serve as visual aids to the text but also embody profound aesthetic and cultural values, enabling readers particularly the younger generation to engage with the masterpiece in a more vivid manner. This study holds significant implications for approaching this literary work through an interdisciplinary lens of fine arts and literature. The article focuses on surveying these images from the perspectives of medium and characteristics, classifying them into three major categories to provide a preliminary overview of their distinctive features. The research is conducted using systematic, analytical, and comparative methods to evaluate visual languages and styles, integrated with an interdisciplinary approach between fine arts and literature. On this basis, the article elucidates the enduring fascination of The Tale of Kieu across generations of audiences. Simultaneously, it contributes to promoting traditional cultural values, enriching the connection and enhancing the appeal of The Tale of Kieu in particular, and medieval literature in general, to contemporary readers, especially the youth.Downloads
