THE RHETORICAL FIGURES OF ANTITHESIS IN NGUYEN DUY POETRY

Abstract

By surveying the poems of Nguyen Duy, the article researches the rhetorical figures of antithesis in Nguyễn Duy's poetry in terms of structure and value. Antithesis in Nguyễn Duy's poetry consists of three types of structures: pairs of words, pairs of phrases, and clauses. The poet uses antithesis to express the contradictions, paradoxes of human life, as well as to demonstrate personal reflections on life and self. Antithesis portrays a portrait of Nguyễn Duy's talent and profundity.
