COMPETITIVENESS EVALUATION OF THE RED RIVER DELTA REGION

Abstract

Abstract: Regional competitiveness has become an increasingly important research due to new approaches to regional development and policies. In the past, regional development policies aimed to attract external resources to make regions more competitive, but had achieved limited success. Nowadays, new approaches to regional development policies focus on mobilizing and utilizing internal resources to make regions strongly competitive. Understanding the regional competitiveness becomes important basis for promulgating appropriate regional development policies, and using indicator set  to evaluate regional competitiveness is necessary. The Regional Competitiveness Index (RCI) of the EU is utilized to  analyze and evaluate the regional competitiveness of the Red River Delta (RRD) region. The findings provide a comprehensive understanding of the region’s  competitiveness. By doing so, appropriate policies have been proposed to enhance the RRD region's competitiveness.
