POPULATION TRANSFORMATION AND ECONOMIC GROWTH IN BAC NINH PROVINCE AFTER 25 YEARS OF RE-ESTABLISHMENT

Abstract

Abstract: The Vietnamese Communist Party and the State have always take into consideration the importance between population and development. Population is both the target and the driving force of sustainable development. Based on an overview of the socio-economic situation of Bac Ninh province, and data from the Bac Ninh Statistical Office and the General Statistics Office, the paper analyzes the characteristics of population structure transformation and its impacts on the province's economic growth since re-establishment in 1997. The findings show that the scale and structure of population transformation have a direct impact on economic growth in the period from 2009 to 2029. In the first 10 years (2009-2019), the population structure limited the growth rate by 1.56 percentage points, but in the second period (2019-2029), it contributed 0.28 percentage points to the average annual economic growth rate of the province. Based on the analysis, the author proposes some suggestions to promote the role of population in development, proactively apply science and technology to increase labor productivity, and achieve the goal of making Bac Ninh a sustainable, modern developed province in Vietnam.
