APPLYING THE NATURAL RESOURCE GOVERNANCE FRAMEWORK IN MINERAL RESOURCE GOVERNANCE IN VIETNAM
Abstract
Despite its significant role in Vietnam's economy in the past, the contribution of the mining industry to GDP has been declining in recent years. This decline raises the request of how to better exploit and manage natural resources to enhance the sector's contribution to Vietnam's socio-economic development. By applying the analytical framework on natural resource governance, the research team comprehensively assesses the current state of mineral resource governance in Vietnam. The results indicate that mineral resource management in Vietnam only meets 6 out of 27 criteria for good natural resource governance. Therefore, Vietnam needs to make further efforts to improve mineral resource management, aiming for more effective exploitation and utilization of natural resources.
